Jill Scott
Jill started her career in Art Therapy after 20 years of working as a Public Health Nurse. She has always had a caring and sensitive nature and enjoyed helping people, but she also had a creative side that wanted to emerge. After almost 15 years of Art classes and embracing this creativity, she was able to merge her two passions together. She attended the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute in Nelson BC intermittently for 3 years to study Art Therapy. Jill received a Masters level Diploma in Art Therapy to complement her undergraduate degree in Nursing.
Since the beginning of Jill’s Art Therapy career, she has worked with a range of diverse clients. She began providing individual and group Art Therapy to adolescent students with complex neurodiversity (children with Autism, ADHD, Tourette's syndrome, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, depression, and anxiety). She then moved on to work with child refugees from war-torn countries with Saskatoon Open Door, providing group and individual therapy as many of the children had symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She also worked with Sask Polytechnic, providing group facilitation for adult refugees in the English Link Program. These individuals had also fled their countries, and many experienced culture shock, grief, loss, and PTSD. After this, Jill provided group therapy to individuals with acquired brain injuries, as well as working with seniors experiencing Alzheimer's disease, and many children from Autism Services and Social Services.
Jill’s life has provided many experiences that have enriched her therapeutic practice. She is very caring, sensitive, and empathetic to her clients. Her manner of working with them builds a relationship of trust and then uses that to help move them to new levels of self-awareness. Jill has taken additional training through workshops from Play Therapy Associations and Trauma Informed Art Therapy through the well-known Art Therapist Dr. Cathy Malchodi. Jill is passionate about both art and assisting clients to reach a place where they feel healing has taken place.
