Wendy Mirasty

Social worker

Wendy Mirasty is a Cree from the Treaty Six territory. A mother of two and a grandmother of one, she is a post-doctoral student in the Indigenous Studies Department with the University of Saskatchewan. Wendy has a Masters in Indigenous Social Work and has been in the field for more than 10 years. Prior to being in the Indigenous Social Work field, she worked in Addiction Counselling. A registered Social Worker in good standing with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Work, she is an approved Mental Health Therapist for First Nations Insurance Benefits.  

Wendy has worked within a school setting as a counsellor and she absolutely loves what she does. Prior to being a school counsellor, she worked as a Crisis Response Coordinator and has worked with teams within First Nation communities all over northern and Central Saskatchewan. She currently holds certification in:

  • Critical Incident Stress Management- Individual and Group  
  • Healing Ways Group Crisis Intervention Skills
  • Mental Health First Aid- First Nation, Adults and Youth

  • Perinatal Mental Health  

She also enjoys delivering parenting programs. Wendy has certification to deliver Positive Parenting and Nobody’s Perfect parenting sessions. Wendy is also a self-published author with her book “52 Weeks of a Single Mother’s Love,” a self-help book for single mothers. She hopes to create more books on motherhood and healing.

Wendy strongly believes that connection is important in all areas of life and follows the Indigenous and Western approaches in the work she does. She also believes that we must meet the client where they are.
